Brainiac 2.5 begins an upgrade of itself which gets out of control. The end result is the arrival of Brainiac 13. 2000/7.

Mxyzptlk explains what happened--how the Joker tricked him into giving him most of his 5th dimensional powers. Superman meets up with distorted versions of Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman. Darkseid consults the Quintessence, the power cosmic of Highfather, Zeus, Shazam, Ganthet, and the Phantom Stranger, and discovers that they have fallen under the Joker’s thrall. Superman frees Superboy, Supergirl, and Lois Lane from the Joker’s thrall, and prepares an assault on the Joker. 2000/38.
